salt of the earth
This is an actual conversation I had with someone today in the elevator at work - I don’t know what he does, but he was wearing work boots and had a tape measure on his belt, so I assume he’s one of our subcontractors. Anyway. Nice guy. This just proves that I’ve been away from the south too long (no, I don’t consider Texas “the south”). Because there was a time when I might have had more to say. I should preface this by saying it was an absolutely gorgeous day today with blues skies and lots of lovely sun.
me: hello, how are you today?
him: boy I’ll tell you what, today is one of those days I reckon the fish would just jump right out of the water and into your boat, you know?
me: yup
him: I’d sure like to get out there today, just to see.
me: mmhmm. I hear that.
